Junior Hockey

Officiate the USPHL.

The United States Premier Hockey League brings high-level junior hockey to rinks across North America, and NEWHOA officials work its games. Faster play, higher stakes, and a real step up for officials ready to advance.

About the League

What is the USPHL?

The United States Premier Hockey League is one of the largest junior hockey organizations in North America, developing players ages 16 to 20 on their path to collegiate and professional hockey. USPHL games are fast, physical, and competitive, and they demand sharp, well-conditioned officials.

NEWHOA officials are part of the crews that work USPHL games in our region. For officials, the league represents one of the highest levels of play available locally, and a proving ground on the pathway toward collegiate assignments.

Two Levels of Junior Hockey

One league, two tiers.

The USPHL runs two distinct junior divisions, each with its own level of play and its own demands on officials.

NCDC

The National Collegiate Development Conference is the top tier in the USPHL. It is a competitive, tuition-free junior division in the Tier II style, designed explicitly for NCAA Division I placement and professional scouting. NCDC games feature the league's most talented rosters and its fastest, most demanding hockey.

Teams in our area: Hudson Havoc (Hudson, WI), Wisconsin Rapids RiverKings (Wisconsin Rapids, WI), and Northwest Express (Spooner, WI).

NCDC North Division

  • Hudson Havoc (Hudson, WI)
  • Minnesota Blue Ox (Coon Rapids, MN)
  • Minnesota Squatch (New Hope, MN)
  • Northwest Express (Spooner, WI)
  • Wisconsin Rapids RiverKings (Wisconsin Rapids, WI)

USPHL Premier

A major pay-to-play Tier III junior division spanning multiple geographic regions across North America. The Premier division focuses on advancing players to collegiate hockey at levels including NCAA Division III and the ACHA, with deep rosters and a heavy game schedule across its regional conferences.

Teams in our area: Dells Ducks (Wisconsin Dells, WI), Hudson Havoc (Hudson, WI), Kinni Spirit (River Falls, WI), and Northwest Express (Spooner, WI).

Premier North Division

  • Dells Ducks (Wisconsin Dells, WI)
  • Hudson Havoc (Hudson, WI)
  • Kinni Spirit (River Falls, WI)
  • Minnesota Mullets (Seward, MN)
  • Northwest Express (Spooner, WI)
For Officials

Why officiate juniors?

Working USPHL games is one of the best development opportunities available to officials in our region.

A Faster Game

Junior hockey's pace and physicality sharpen your skating, positioning, and judgment in ways youth games can't. Every shift demands your best.

A Step Toward College

Junior assignments are a proving ground on the pathway to ACHA and NCAA hockey. Strong performance at this level gets noticed.

Support to Get There

NEWHOA pairs developing officials with mentors who already work junior and collegiate games, with the game tape and feedback to help you make the jump.

Assignments

Who assigns USPHL games.

USPHL assignments in our area are handled by the league's scheduler. NEWHOA is an education and training association and does not assign games, so any scheduling arrangements are between you and the scheduler directly.
