About NEWHOA

Serving hockey across
Northeast Wisconsin.

The Northeast Wisconsin Hockey Officials Association recruits, trains, evaluates, and supports on-ice officials across the region, from first-year youth officials to USA Hockey Level 4 veterans.

Our Mission

Fair. Safe.
Professional.

We recruit, train, evaluate, and support on-ice officials at every level, from mite house leagues through collegiate and junior hockey — ensuring every game is governed fairly, safely, and professionally.

NEWHOA officials work a wide range of sanctioned hockey across Northeast Wisconsin: USA Hockey youth and adult, WIAA high school, ACHA and NCAA collegiate, and USPHL junior. Our development program is built to move motivated officials up that ladder.

Levels of Play

From youth house leagues
to junior and collegiate hockey.

NEWHOA officials are active across every major hockey sanctioning body in the region. Whatever level you want to reach, we've got officials already working it, and ready to mentor you there.

USA Hockey

Youth house and travel leagues (8U through 18U), adult leagues, and regional tournaments. The foundation of every NEWHOA official's career.

WIAA High School

Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association varsity and JV games across Northeast Wisconsin's boys and girls high school hockey programs.

ACHA

American Collegiate Hockey Association — club hockey across D1, D2, and D3 programs at UW schools and other Wisconsin colleges.

NCAA

NCAA-sanctioned collegiate hockey, including varsity D3 programs and exhibition games at higher-division schools across the region.

USPHL

United States Premier Hockey League — elite junior hockey including Tier III and Premier divisions. One of the top junior development leagues in the country.

GLHL

The Great Lakes Hockey League is a Midwest hockey league that has operated since 1937, originally under the name Badger State Hockey League. The league is made up of players over 18 who bring college, junior, and semi-pro experience, giving them a competitive environment to keep playing the game.

Your Pathway Up

Because our officials work at every level, we can pair developing officials with mentors who currently work the level they want to reach, and provide the game tape and feedback to get there. Officials who demonstrate strong performance at USA Hockey levels are actively supported in advancing to WIAA, ACHA, NCAA, and USPHL assignments. This is what sets NEWHOA apart: your ceiling is not your current level, and the people who will help you break through are already on our roster.
